Bazaruto Archipelago
The Bazaruto Archipelago consists of five pristine islands, the closest being 10 km offshore of Vilanculos. Vilanculos Beach Lodge is the perfect base from which to explore the Bazaruto Archipelago.
Most of the Archipelago has been declared a National Park and sustains a diverse range of flora and fauna. Visitor s are often rewarded with sightings of dolphins, turtles, rays, whales (at the start of summer) and, if you are lucky, a dugong.
Over 150 bird species have been identified in the area, including several rare species. The varied habitats make this a birdwatcher's paradise. The sand banks are a haven for pelicans and wading birds such as flamingos.
The Bazaruto National Park is protected by WWF and Park Fees are payable: non-resident adults Mts 200,000, children 13-20 yrs Mts 50,000, under 12 free. Tickets must be purchased before entering the Park. These can be obtained from registered tour operators or from the WWF office in Vilanculos village.
