Weather and Mechanical problems TEMPORARILY closes Paradise ISLAND, MEDJMBE
Extreme weather conditions has resulted in damage to essential equipment at Medjumbe Private Island, resulting in owners of the exclusive holiday destination, Rani Resorts, being forced to temporarily close the resort.
Managing Director, John McMillan, said that a combination of severely inclement weather conditions including severe storms, resulted in the malfunctioning of the desalination plant on Medjumbe Private Island, which generates fresh water for the resort.

The inclement weather also aggravated an existing problem with the generators on the island. This problem has, unfortunately, recurred despite several attempts to fix them in the past. The resort will be closed until 30 September to accommodate the full replacement and where necessary, refurbishment of the desalination plant and generators.

Polana:
September 2010 will mark the completion of an extensive multi-million dollar expansion and refurbishment project to the Polana Serena Hotel in Maputo.
Renovations to the hotel include a new main entrance, lobby and reception. The Polana Bar & Aquarius Restaurant & Bar has also been revamped. New additions to the hotel include the Veranda Restaurant, four new meeting rooms with conference facilities as well as the Ballroom guest lounge.
Future developments to the hotel are on the horizon with the opening of the Delagoa Restaurant as well as the Polana Serena ‘Maisha’ Health Club and Spa in October 2010.

Shanghai – Maputo
As from next year the Mozambican capital Maputo and the Chinese city Shanghai will be linked by direct flights, an initiative that is hoped to boost and accelerate trade between the two countries.
This was disclosed in Maputo on Friday by Cao Hougru, head of a Chinese business delegation that is visiting Mozambique to seek investment opportunities.
China is clearly interested in the implementation of this venture that has been approved by the Civil Aviation Institute of China.
According to Cao, Beijing is just waiting for the reply from the Mozambican Transport and Communications Ministry to start operating this route, and two Chinese airlines companies have already shown their interest.
